What is a Notary Public?
A notary public is an individual who is officially authorized to act as a witness to certify documents by the state government. The notary is responsible for verifying the signer’s identity and that the signer is signing the document of their own free will.
The notary must confirm the signer’s identity by looking at their state- or federal-issued ID, such as a driver’s license or passport.
Once the ID requirement is fulfilled and the documents are signed, the notary will then apply his own signature and individual seal. This action legally guaarantees that the document signatures area valid according to state law.
